Advice and Tips for your upcoming DOT physical exam:
-
Are you a smoker? We STRONGLY suggest that you stop smoking prior this exam (specialized testing is required of all those >35 YOA who identify as current smokers, delaying your certification significantly) and document that you quit smoking on your history form.
-
Worried about your blood pressure?
-
Make sure you take your blood pressure medication.
-
Cut back on salty foods, nicotine, caffeine (coffee and energy drinks)
-
BEING PREPARED FOR YOUR EXAM WILL MAKE IT “HASSLE FREE”:
-
Do not forget your glasses and/or hearing aids if you use them.
-
Drink a glass of water before you leave (dehydration can alter your urinalysis).
-
Bring any previous waivers or exemptions.
-
Bring any documentation from your PCP regarding any existing health conditions*(see below).
-
Bring the contact information of your doctors in case we need additional information.
-
Wait to use the restroom. You are required to give a urine sample.
*DIABETIC: Recent HbAIC and fasting blood sugar blood readings for NID diabetics
*SLEEP APNEA: CPAP users must have a digital printout of usage OR a note from lung specialist regarding compliance with the CPAP.
